Leica Camera at Paris Photo 2017

Leica will be presenting this year’s winning entries from the long-established and internationally acclaimed Leica Oskar Barnack Award at the prestigious fine art photography fair.

At this year’s Paris Photo (9 – 12 November 2017) – the world’s largest photography fair, Leica Camera will be presenting the two winning entries from the Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) 2017. Fair visitors can look forward to seeing the striking pictures of Norwegian photographer Terje Abusdal at the Leica stand. Abusdal entered LOBA 2017 with his ‘Slash & Burn’ project. The portfolio consists of mysterious and expressive images exploring the lives of Forest Finns in the grey zones between tradition and myth, ethnicity and nationality, fact and fiction.

Furthermore, the Leica stand will also be showing ‘Behind the Scenes’, an impressive, super realistic and fierce portfolio by this year’s winner of the Leica Oscar Barnack Newcomer Award, Sergey Melnitchenko.

The Ukrainian photographer has intimately captured dancers in a Chinese club. The cinematic imagery of his portfolio has nothing to do with life in the spotlight, it tells stories of everyday life behind the scenes with all the rough edges of show business.

In the course of the Paris Photo fair, the Leica stand will also be the location for portrait shoots and book signing sessions:

  • Wednesday, 8 November: portrait shoots with French photographer Frédéric Stucin.
  • Thursday, 9 November: portrait shoots with British photographer Greg Williams.
  • Friday, 10 November: portrait shoots with German photographer Jan Schlegel.
  • Saturday, 11 November: portrait shoots with Italian photographer Eolo Perfido.
  • Friday, 10 November and Saturday, 11 November, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award winner, Sergey Melnitchenko, signs his book ‘Behind the scenes’.

All portraits shot during each day’s sessions will be shown on the following day in the course of an on-screen projection at the Leica stand.
