Leica Camera presents innovative accessories for Leica spotting scopes at IWA in Nuremberg
Leica Extender 1.8x, Digital Adapter X and the C-170 tripod
Leica Camera AG, Wetzlar, presents practical accessories for Leica spotting scopes at IWA OutdoorClassics in Nuremberg.
With the Leica Extender 1.8x for Leica APO-Televid angled spotting scopes, the magnification of the Leica eyepiece is increased to between 45- and 90-fold. Anyone wishing to observe the multifaceted wonders of nature in all their glory sometimes needs to bring them much closer. Leica developed the Extender 1.8x for Leica APO-Televid angled spotting scopes to do just that. Once mounted, it allows the observation of even the tiniest details of objects at extreme distances. This combination maintains the typically wide field of view in proportion to the magnification factor, and the unrivalled brightness, contrast and resolving powers of the overall system of spotting scope and eyepiece are preserved. Thanks to this previously unheard of extension of magnification factors, the observation of wildlife, nature, digiscoping and even the stars and planets is more exciting than ever before.
Thanks to the proven qualities of the bayonet mount, the Extender can be quickly and securely mounted between the spotting scope and the eyepiece. The Leica APO Televid spotting scopes thus adapt to all challenges and impress their users with even greater versatility. The Leica Extender 1.8x is compatible with the two Leica angled spotting scopes, the APO-Televid 62 W and the APO-Televid 82 W. Leica Camera AG is the only manufacturer of premium-segment optical equipment to offer such an extensive portfolio for wildlife and nature observation and constantly expands the range of products with innovative solutions. The individual components, from the spotting scopes and the Extender 1.8x to the eyepiece, are optically, mechanically and ergonomically ideally matched to guarantee intuitive handling.
The Leica Extender 1.8x has been on the market since March 2014 and is available at a recommended retail price of 450 euros from authorised Leica dealers.
Photography with Leica spotting scopes: the new Digital Adapter X
Another innovative accessory for Leica spotting scopes is the newly developed digiscoping adapter X (Type 113), which allows the shake-free mounting of a Leica X (Type 113) camera on the eyepiece of a Leica APO-Televid 82 or APO-Televid 65 spotting scope. The combination of high-performance digital technology ‘Made in Germany’ and the optical excellence of the high-performance spotting scopes ensures impressive imaging results of the highest quality.
In combination with Leica spotting scopes, eyepieces and extenders, the 33 mm lens of the Leica X (Type 113) offers photographers and naturalists the equivalent of a telephoto zoom with focal lengths from 850 to 3100 mm. No other connector between a spotting scope and a premium camera with an APS-C format sensor is as stable as this and so easy to use. Thanks to a fast maximum aperture of f/1.7 and a large sensor, users can look forward to photos with high contrast, exceptional brightness, clarity and depth – and all of this even in unfavourable light thanks to high usable ISO settings. This allows users to capture impressive photos that would otherwise only be possible with special telephoto lenses on SLR cameras. The new Leica X (Type 113) also features video capability for brilliant moving pictures in MP4 format.
The Leica Digital Adapter X (Type 113) has been on the market since September 2014 and is available at a recommended retail price of 115 euros from authorised Leica dealers.
Versatile, robust and reliable: Leica C-170 tripod
Other accessories in the Leica portfolio for outdoor activities are the new Leica C-170 tripod and a choice of two matching video heads, the VH1 and VH2. These products are ideal in combination with Leica spotting scopes, binoculars and Leica cameras and are optimised for outdoor use. The use of high-quality materials guarantees absolute reliability and provides maximum stability in even the toughest conditions´. With this Leica equipment, users have ideal additions to their gear to help them experience and capture the wonders of nature in almost any situation. Constructed from high-quality magnesium and carbon, the Leica C-170 tripod is a dependable and unshakeable lightweight. Its compact dimensions make it convenient to carry and an ideal addition to outdoor gear with a hardly noticeable increase in weight. The tripod is supplied complete with a 32-centimetre centre column that extends the height of the tripod to 195 centimetres (without a tripod head).
The two Leica video heads, the Leica VH1 and VH2, are distinguished by compact design and ease of use. The smaller video tripod head, the VH1, is particularly light and is ideal for observation with a spotting scope or binoculars, or for photography with cameras such as the Leica M and the Leica compact cameras. Despite its small size, it guarantees shake-free observation and promises unique insights into the wonders of nature. The VH2 video tripod head is only slightly larger and provides a stable and secure platform for digiscoping and photography with larger lenses. Its smooth and fluid action with a panning handle makes panorama filming jerk-free and ensures smooth flowing video recordings. Both Leica video tripod heads are designed in a way that enables users to bring their equipment into precisely the desired position and perform any adjustments required with a minimum of effort. At the same time, the video tripod heads exert an enormous locking power that ensures that the equipment is always safely secured and can be brought easily and effortlessly into any desired position.
These new accessories, the Leica C-170 tripod and the Leica VH1 und VH2, are also fully compatible with other Leica photographic accessories. This means not only that the new tripod can be used in combination with the Leica 24/38 ball heads, but also that the Leica video tripod heads can be mounted on the Leica travel tripod.
The accessories have been available from authorised Leica dealers since September 2014. The Leica C-170 tripod head is available for 430 euros, the Leica VH1 video tripod head for 180 euros and the Leica VH2 for 240 euros.
