The Leica M Monochrom special “Stealth Edition” was designed by Marcus Wainwright, founder and owner of the acclaimed fashion label “rag & bone.” Wainwright is also a dedicated Leica photographer who shoots with various Leica cameras, often in black and white using his M6.

The International Leica Society – 50th Anniversary

Special Edition APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH.

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the International Leica Society (LHSA). To commemorate the occasion, Leica has produced a special anniversary edition of the APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH. The lens has been designed to resemble the Summicron 50 f/2, which was introduced in 1954 together with the Leica M3. Though originally launched as a retractable lens, it was subsequently also available as a rigid version from 1956.

The contemporary APO-Summicron-M 50 f/2 ASPH. exploits fully the capabilities of modern digital camera systems in terms of contrast and resolution. With the Special Edition, this unparalleled imaging performance has been combined with the vintage look and feel of a 1950s Summicron. The lens body features a brass exterior with either a black paint or silver chrome finish. The era of early Summicron lenses is further referenced in the separate lens hood and lens cover, both of which are also made of brass, and finished to match the selected lens.

The Special Edition is limited to 500 units, comprising 300 black paint and 200 silver chrome models. The distance scale is engraved in red, while all other engravings are inlaid either in white (on the black paint models) or black (silver chrome models). The special-edition serial numbers are shown on the aperture ring, while the LHSA logo is inscribed (without inlay) on the bayonet ring, just above the ‘Made in Germany’ lettering. In addition to the warranty card, test certificate and user manual, the premium-quality packaging also contains a certificate of authenticity.

Leica Camera AG has collaborated with the LHSA on several special editions to date. The Society, which also publishes a quarterly magazine titled ‘Viewfinder’, is specifically dedicated to the exploration of Leica’s history and products. Previous LHSA special editions include a set comprising a classic MP of 1956 with a retro-style Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH.; a black-paint M6 TTL; and a Leica MP (released in 2003) with Leicavit, in a hammertone finish.

Highest performance and unique design

The LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-M 50 mm f/2 ASPH. is available in a red anodised version

The world’s sharpest standard lens is the first ever Leica lens to be offered in an alternative, red-anodised finish from December. The uniqueness of this eye-catching lens is further underlined by the limited edition of only 100 pieces.

2016: Leica M-P „grip“ by Rolf Sachs

An unusual special model has been created in collaboration with the artist and photographer Rolf Sachs in a set comprising the Leica M-P (Type 240) ‘grip’ by Rolf Sachs and a fast classic lens, the Leica Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH. The combination of unusual materials in an eye-catching choice of colour lends the camera a unique look.
Art – to have and to hold: Particularly when making pictures, a Leica M-P ‘grip’ by Rolf Sachs is an extraordinary visual and tactile experience that inspires the passion for photography in an entirely new way with every image captured.

Designer and artist Rolf Sachs took the Leica M-P rangefinder camera in black paint finish and remodelled it to create the unique style he envisaged. The familiar leather trim was replaced by rubber elements with red nubs that lend the camera a uniquely eye-catching look and simultaneously create an entirely new haptic experience.
The engravings on the body, control elements and the lens are also picked out in red to match the trim. The latter is also engraved with ‘rolf sachs’ on the index ring and the special edition serial number on the front lens retaining ring. A ‘rolf sachs’ logotype graces the back of the top deck as a signature of the designer.

The performance and the technical specifications of both the Leica M-P ‘grip’ by Rolf Sachs and the Leica Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH. lens are identical to those of their counterparts from the serial production portfolio. The camera offers all the technical advantages of the Leica digital rangefinder system and the particularly versatile lens combines moderate wide-angle character with natural reproduction of proportions. The special edition comes in a robust, black hard-shell case that protects the set and offers room for an additional M-Lens and personal items such as a tablet. The set also includes a Leica SF 40 flash unit, a cotton carrying strap, cleaning utensils, and a nylon pouch for simple protection of the camera when not in the case.

M-P Titan_Front

2016: Leica M-P (Typ 240) Titan Set

With the release of the Leica M-P (Typ 240) Titan, this is the first time that the camera body has been crafted almost entirely from titanium: the top plate, base plate and controls are all precision machined from solid metal. Made in Germany, this special edition is strictly limited to 333 units, and includes two masterpieces in lens construction: a Leica Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. and a Leica APO-Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 ASPH. This is also the first time that these two lenses have been produced with an anodised titanium finish. The ‘Titanium Edition’ camera and lenses both represent pure perfection in their fusion of mechanical and optical engineering and premium design. The finishing touch to this outstanding set is the finest-quality carrying strap in black, full-grain cowhide, which perfectly complements the refined leather trim of the camera body.

Summicron-M 1:2/28 mm ASPH._960x640

With the release of the Leica M-P (Typ 240) Titan, Leica presents its fifth limited edition crafted from titanium. The camera body and all control elements are machined from solid metal and coated with a clear lacquer that fully protects the external surfaces of the camera from any external damage. Further special features, compared to Leica M-P (Typ 240) standard model are the leather body trim in black, full-grain cowhide and the special edition serial number engraved on the accessory shoe. The Leica M-P (Typ 240) Titan offers the same performance and benefits as the standard production model.

The standard lens for reportage photography is now presented, for the first time, in a titanium finish and harmonises perfectly with the camera. The Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. is also made in Germany, and is manufactured in Wetzlar with an aluminium barrel and rings that are subsequently anodised with a high-quality titanium finish. The engravings of the focusing scale distances in feet, and the focal length of the lens are highlighted in red, in subtle contrast to the titanium finish. A further addition compared to the standard production lens is the unique special edition serial number displayed on the retaining ring of the front element of the lens.

The reference lens in its class, for imaging performance, completes the ‘Titan’ special edition set. The barrel and rings of the APO-Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 ASPH. are also precisely machined from aluminium and then perfected with a titanium-coloured, anodised finish. As with the 28 mm Summicron-M, the focusing scale distances in feet and the focal length engraving are highlighted in red. On this lens, the special edition serial number is engraved on the opposite side of the death field scale ring. The APO-Summicron-M 50 mm f/2 ASPH. harmonises perfectly with the refined titanium look of the Leica M-P (Typ 240) Titan and the Summicron-M 28 mm f/2 ASPH. to complete the limited edition set.

M-P Correspondent

2015: M-P Correspondent designed by Lenny Kravitz
